Retention & attendance

I can't keep people. Can you help me with recruiting?

You post the job. You interview. You finally hire someone good. Three months later they're gone, or they're still on the payroll but they only show up when they feel like it. And you're back to posting the job.

This isn't a recruiting problem. It's a retention problem.

Recruiting fills the bucket. Retention is the hole in the bottom of it. If people leave in the first 90 days, the hiring was probably fine. Something happened after they walked in the door.

And "nobody wants to work anymore"? I hear it every week, and I don't buy it. People want to work. They just want different things than they did 20 years ago: a sense of purpose, a team they're proud to be part of, a manager who knows their name, work that matters. A paycheck alone won't keep them anymore.

When people don't show up

Attendance is the hot-button issue I hear about most in service, manufacturing and admin roles. Call-outs, late arrivals, no-call no-shows. Usually it's a symptom: an unclear policy, a manager who enforces it for some people and not others, or a team that doesn't feel like anyone would notice if they weren't there. Fix the cause, and attendance follows.

How I solve it

  • Find out why they're really leaving: exit data, stay interviews with the people you want to keep, and a look at your first 90 days
  • Fix onboarding so new hires feel welcome, trained and connected in week one
  • A fair, clear attendance policy your managers actually enforce, the same way for everyone
  • Pay and benefits check: are you competitive for your area and industry?
  • Manager coaching: people leave managers, so we make sure yours know how to lead

This is for you if…

  • You're always hiring for the same roles
  • New hires leave in the first 90 days
  • Attendance is causing overtime, missed deadlines or burned-out coworkers
  • You've raised pay and people still leave

Good to know

  • I'm not a staffing agency or recruiter. I fix why people leave, so the people you hire stay.
  • Every business is different. I won't hand you a template.
